Cool and raining today

Wow, it's amazing that I don't have to turn on my air-conditioner this morning. The highest temperature of the day has been 33-35C for a week or two and suddenly it drops down to 29C, breezing cool moisture air in the house. Nice! :)

I did an interview with Mr Vruk a couple of days ago who invented a bass drum pedal called Vruk Drum Master. It's an amazing product to speed up your footwork by adding it on your bass drum pedal. Mr Vruk actually showed us how it works and how to incorporate its function to bass drum playing.

One of the interesting things I found that day is that his name "Vruk" should be pronounced "v-rook" not "v-rack." Japanese ads use the latter pronunciation in Katakana just because distributors in US and Canada started calling it so. Proper names are often hard to pronounce correctly especially when you have no one around to ask. It was nice of Mr Vruk and his partner Elena (I think her name is) to explain me how it was introduced incorrectly.

Mr Vruk is originally from Yugoslavia, moved to UK in 1982 and has been living there since. He majored in law in his country and worked at a law firm  before he started a company. And Vruk Drum Master was invented while he was working there. I was impressed to hear that and thought that endless passion would definitely lead you to a great invention. In fact, his face is just like a child with his favourite toy telling how great it is when explaining the technical aspect of its function. He's got a strong Yugoslavian accent to his English and it was a bit difficult for me to get what he said for the first 5-10 minutes but there's always this chemistry of being second language speakers that makes it easy to understand eventually. We also talked a bit about 'accents' after the interview.

Talking about something that has nothing to do with music is what I like most about interviews. Of course I don't do it when we focus on music. But we are all equally human beings who have a life to live. No one can be a musician or a player or an interpreter or an office worker 24/7, right? We have many more things to talk about and that makes our life colourful, right?

Just like today, I appreciate this grey weather now though I love it more when it's sunny. We all need a change once in a while to see things from other sides. Otherwise we would become bored with what we take for granted. Nice changes are always welcome even if it's a tiny thing like a sudden rainy day in hot sunny summer :D
