3 more days to go. Done with all the interviews that I have to translate before my trip to Wiesensteig and got all the stuff I want to bring there. I'm gradually getting excited. I will be 100% off line this time - no computer to accompany me - so that I can forget my work for 10 days. I can use Ulf's computer if necessary but other than that, my cell phone is the only direct connection. I'm not going up the mulga at all but it feels good to be away from busyness of regular life. Now I have to figure out how to put all the stuff in my suitcase... It's going to be heavy with Japanese food I want to cook for my friends. I don't want anything to break on the way, so packing is a big 3D jigsaw puzzle. I'm pretty good at packing and it's fun to figure it out. その１ エリザベス姉さんとウルフ兄さんのために日本酒をお土産にしようと思い、成田空港で買って持って行くつもりでいました。 がー、何故か「ちょっと待てよ」と思い、液体物の持ち込み規制を調べてみました。 そしたら……直行便であれば特に問題ないのですが、乗り継ぎ便の場合はちょいと問題ありなのです。 成田の免税店で酒類を買うということは機内持ち込みとなるわけで、成田空港内では全く問題ないのですが、ヨーロッパ内の乗り継ぎ空港では例の「100ml規制」に引っ掛かるらしいのです。 それを知らずに持ち込むと没収されるらしい……。 EU加盟国で購入した100ml以上の液体物に関しては免税店のレシートを提示すればOKらしいのですが、それ以外はNGとのこと。 何か釈然としないものがありますが、さすがにお土産を没収されたら悲しいので、今回はスーツケースに入れて持って行くことにしました。 そうなると、やっぱり買うのは地元秋田の日本酒（笑）。 早速、楽天市場の秋田物産ショップでゲットしました〜♪ その２ 確定申告書の控えが届いたのですが、税務署の職員さんが去年に続き面白いことをやらかしてくれました。 去年は申告書を郵送する時に「医療費の領収書と申告書の控えを返送して下さい」とメモを付けて切手を貼った返信用封筒を１枚同封しました。 がー、戻ってきたのは医療費の領収書のみ。 なので今回は去年と同じメモと一緒に返信用封筒を２枚同封してみました。 戻ってきたのは申告書の控えと返信用封筒１枚………。 きっとたくさんの申告書がドーンと届くので、いちいちメモなんて確認できないくらい忙しいのでしょう。 でも、なんか、こんな面白い仕事の仕方をする方々のお給料を出すために税金を払うのがバカらしく感じますわ（苦笑）。 「これは社会奉仕なの、チャリティなのよ〜」と自分に言い聞かせて住民税を払うことにします。 その３ ずっと棚上げになっていたプロジェクトがやっと動き出しそうなのですが、担当者が変わったためにこれまでの経緯を確認されました。 しかし、これは私の管轄外で、詳細を知っているのは別の人なのです。 担当者にそう伝えた数分後、その担当者の上司が笑顔で「例の件、よろしくね」と言ってきました。 なので、同じように「それ、私じゃないのよ」と伝えたら、「えっ、...

My friend and I talked about dignity during dinner yesterday evening. My friend is now working at a place with housewife oriented part-time workers as preparation for one of her dreams. It's her first time to work with those who have spent most of their lives at home looking after their families and she says it's full of surprises. It's interesting to hear her story about how she deals with her co-workers there. Neither of us actually have done any work where we have to listen to and accept whatever our bosses or elder workers teach you even if some of them are obviously inefficient. Probably that's what many of people do when they just start their career. But we are both lucky enough to have had certain space to improvise by ourselves to make our work efficient. 夢に出てきました。 たぶん、いや、間違いなく生まれて初めて見るカメの夢。 夢の内容はこんな感じです。 目覚めると壁に20〜25㎝くらいの黒いカメが張り付いていて、このカメさん、甲羅の周りに白いラインがぐるりと入っている都会的な出で立ち。 「なんでカメがいるの？」と呟いた途端、ベッドの脇にもやはり20〜25㎝くらいのミドリ色のカメがいるのを発見。 「ウチ、あなたの食べ物ないでしょうが？」と話しかけると、このミドリガメさん、「何言ってんの？」と言わんばかりに、お水が入った小皿、キャットフードとぶどう（何でぶどうなの？）が入った中皿、ペット用のトイレシートが入った箱に猛スピードで突進し、水を飲み、ぶどうを食べ、シートで用を足し、楽し気にウチの中を徘徊し始めました。 「あっ、じゃ、大丈夫ね」と思って壁に目を戻すとクロカメさんがいません。 「あれ？」と思ったら、クロカメさん、何故か羽を広げて隣の部屋に飛んで行き、黒いロッカー風の服を着た長髪で細身のオトコの人に変身しちゃいました。 そして「オレさ、もうバンド、クビなんだよ。50になるからアイドルやれないって」と言うじゃありませんか。 「ええーっ、50になるまでアイドルって……」と驚く私。 そしたら玄関から彼のバンド仲間らしい人達が手にワインやら日本酒やらを持ちゾロゾロ入って来て、これからウチで宴会を催す雰囲気なんです。 「じゃ、ツマミ作るわ」と台所へ行こうとしたところで目が覚めました。 目覚めて一瞬ミドリガメさんを探したくらいリアルな夢でした。 早速カメの夢の意味を探すべくネットで調べたら、一般的には吉夢とのこと。 カメの大きさと幸せの大きさが比例するようです。 がー、しかし、なんなんだー、この面白過ぎるシチュエーションの夢は？（笑） 俊足のミドリガメさんに50までアイドルやっている実は人間のクロカメさん。 私の脳みそ、相変わらず、いい仕事してます！(^_^;)

夕べは仲良しのDSちゃん（きっとこれを読んだ本人はどこからこのイニシャルが来たのか分かるはず‥笑）と久し振りにお食事しました。 彼女は同業者なのですが、今はもう一つの夢の実現に向けてアルバイトをしています。 そこには働き者で優しいお姉様方がたくさんいるらしく、彼女も色々なことを学んでいると言っていました。 お姉様方と仲良くなる過程で、当然DSちゃんの経歴や生活の一部が明らかになったわけです。 DSちゃんは私よりも年下で現在独身。 でもしっかり者の彼女は若い頃にマンションを購入しているので家持ちの素敵♡女子。 この２点をお姉様方に話したところ、「えええーーーーーーっ！」と驚かれたそうです。 このお姉様方は女子は結婚して子供を持って一人前、家はダンナが家族のために買うものと信じて疑わない年代のようで、どうもDSちゃんのような知り合いは周りにいない様子。 しかし、逆にお姉様方の反応にDSちゃんは改めて自分は社会の少数派ということを実感したそうです。 となると、私ももちろん少数派に入るわけで、二人で「これが私たちにとっての普通だけど、大多数にとっては普通じゃないってことね〜」と確認し合ったわけです。 ドラマや映画では４０代独身女性なんて当たり前すぎて、今では特に取り沙汰されることもないと思っていたのに、現実社会では相変わらずの少数派ってのが驚きです。 でもお姉様方にとっては初めての少数派との遭遇が良い刺激になることでしょう。 少数派つながりで、最近は「時短」という意識の人が多くなっているとDSちゃんが言っていました。 忙しい主婦にとって短時間でパッパと美味しい料理を作ることはとても大事なことなのでしょう。 ジャム作り名人のDSちゃんが「１時間くらいかけて煮込むんですよ」と言ったところ、またまた「ええーーっ、そんなに面倒なことをしているの？」と驚かれたそうです。 料理好きにとっては丁寧に下ごしらえして、丁寧に作り上げることも楽しみの一つなのですが、これもどうも少数派らしいです（苦笑）。 お姉様方が「面倒な作業」と思うことがDSちゃんには全く面倒ではなく、むしろ楽しい作業と捉えていることが更なる驚きを誘発したことは言うまでもありません。 ふっふっふ、DSちゃん、お姉様方をどんどん刺激しておやりなさいな（笑）。 既存のレール...

It's amazing that I feel energy recharged the next day I've had dinner at my favourite izakaya-restaurant KOKOKARAYA . Their food and drink are awesome and the atmosphere is really comfortable. But there must be something more than that to make me feel good next day... There are always nice surprises in their food and smiles on everyone's face there. I guess the positive vibe just effects everyone there and makes it easy to feel happy. The managing chef Kubota-san says that only conscientious people come there for dinner or drink for some reason and that the restaurant itself seems to pick up who to enter there. It's absolutely "Like attracts like" thing, I guess. Now it's like my litmus paper to see if people I'm with are right for me. Sorry Kubota-san! While I was looking for CDs to give my friend last night, I found Dee C Lee's "Things Will Be Sweeter" released in 1994. I remember having so much fun working with her and her manager at the time Zoe when they came to Tokyo for the promotional tour of that album. Wow! 16 years ago!! At the time, I began to feel comfortable and confident working with musicians. I still wasn't happy with my ability as an interpreter (I never am nor will be - it's a lifelong learning thing ;)) but Dee gave me a great opportunity to learn how to support the artist and to enjoy it. She said I looked a lot like her sister and sometimes called me "Nicole" by accident (I think that's her name). That's probably one of the reasons we hit it off right away. Sweet memories! One of the astrologers I read daily often writes about Law of Attraction lately. It's something I've been believing in even though I didn't know the name for the mind set. I think many people who can easily accept this Law must have believed it unconsciously just like me. And some of them certainly know it actually works. If you want something to happen, just think and believe it's going to happen. So simple! But this also applies to negative things, so you have to be careful. A good example of negative attraction is, my Ex kept answering me "It's going to happen" whenever I asked him if he really wanted a divorce. I wanted to know how he felt but he never told me. The result is, now he is my Ex ;)  So it's interesting and surprising if you monitor yourself - how you feel about a certain thing and what future you want it to be. I've read somewhere that some would unconsciously hope to stay unhappy just because it's the comfo...

when I find out that someone tries to have what I've got. I mean, it's all about something visible. I saw one of my friends the other day. She wears genuine stone jewelry just like the ones I have. She says she had them made for her... She was never interested in genuine stones but all of a sudden, she seems into it. I just wonder what has happened to her...  Jewelry is something that shows people's taste so everybody wears what they think is suitable for them, right? I know her taste is totally different from mine but seeing her wearing something similar to mine simply makes me wonder why. I wouldn't mind at all if it were purely coincident but it doesn't look so. Hmmm... It snowed in Tokyo on the 9th and today it's 20C (68F)! The warm wind is still blowing hard since this morning and I wonder if it's "Haru-ichiban (first spring storm)" which is the annual opening act for spring... probably not though I wish it were. In my country, school year and business year end in March and they begin in April. So it's the time people come and go. A month people feel sentimental and elation at the same time. Saying good-bye to people you've worked with is sad but welcoming new people is refreshing. Some of my colleagues start a new life. I wish them good luck, indeed! While I was taking a bath last night, I suddenly realized that I had never worked in a division where I share my work with someone. I have only worked for 3 years as a full-timer at the beginning of my career but even that job, which is almost the same as what I do now at a publisher as one of my freelance work, was all taken care by me alone with a boss for conve...

Friends, I just found this video on YouTube and wanted to share it with you who haven't been there. It's a cute town as you see here... I wish the weather would be as sunny and warm as the one in the video during my visit there next month... But it's been incredibly cold in Europe this winter so I'm afraid it will probably be as cold as the last time I stayed there 2 years ago. Hey my dearest friends in Japan, would you blame me if I stole the Sun from Tokyo for a week or so to bring it there with me? ;)

無意識だとは思うのですが、必要以上に自分の優位性を声高に主張する人がいます。 そういう人を見るにつけ、少し悲しくなりますね。 特に「金持ってるど〜」系の主張は、その人の本質的な品位をついつい疑ってしまう。 田舎の普通の農家の娘として生まれ育った私にとって、お金は生きて行くのに必要ではあるけど、特に固執すべきものという存在ではないので、何かにつけて「お金、お金」と言う人のメンタリティは理解できないわけですわ。 使えるお金が多いのなら多く使えばいいだけだし、少ないなら使える範囲で使えばいい。 身の丈に合った生活をすればいいだけです。 でも、変な話、金銭でしか優位性を誇示できない人というのは金銭的だけでなく、思い遣りの点でもケチだったりするんですよね。 その絶妙なアンバランスさが可笑しかったりします。 きっと優位性の誇示というのは人間が本能的に持っている生存競争で生き抜くための資質なのでしょう。 ただ、悲しいかな、金銭モノサシでしか計れない人に人は寄ってこないという暗黙の鉄則があるようで、本人は競争で勝っているつもりでも、実は誰もその人と競争なんてしていないわけです。 っていうか、RPGのように、その時々に親しくしている人を蹴落として、見下して、次のステージに進むことを繰り返しているように見えます。 そんなんじゃ、やっぱり人は寄ってこない。 この週末、そんな残念な気質を持った知り合いと飲んでいて、「この人のこの先の人生には愛情に満ち溢れた穏やかな時間は訪れないだろうな」と思ってしまいました。 昔から母が「お前は不思議と人に恵まれている」と私に言うのですが、その知り合いと飲んだ後でこれまでの人生を振り返って、不幸マグネット体質の人を出来る限り近寄せなかったためだと気付きました。 不幸マグネット体質の人の見分け方は簡単です。 初対面で無表情だったり、話している最中に笑顔が全くない人がそれに相当します。 一方、幸福マグネット体質の人は素敵な笑顔を常に浮かべています。 ほんと、何度も言いますが、「笑う門には福来る」ですよ。 笑顔の素敵さで優位性を誇示する方が幸せになれる気がします。 つーか、笑顔で生きていると、優位になるとか不利になるとかの些末なことは考えなくなると思うんですがね……。 だって、人と交わることが楽しいんです...

ドイツに住むエリザベス姉さんとウルフ兄さんに促され、Skypeをインストールしてみました。 まだ使い方がよく分からないのですが、夕べブログのアップデートを終えてそろそろ寝ようと思っていた時、「寝る前に一度Skypeをオンラインにしてみよう」と突然思い付きました。 そしたらオンラインにした瞬間にウルフ兄さんから「今こっちはオンラインだよ」というメッセージが入り、数秒後にエリザベス姉さんが「Hola, Miki!」といきなり画面に現れたんです！ いやはや、驚いた（笑）。 これって以心伝心？　なに？ それから午前3時過ぎまで小1時間ほど大笑いしながらお喋りしたのですが、なんか不思議な感覚でしたね。 ケータイですらテレビ電話を使ったことがないので、生まれて初めてのテレビ電話なわけです。 15年以上前にイギリス人と電話インタビューをしていて、「これってスゴいよ。だって何万キロと離れた僕たちが電話回線でつながっていて、同じ時間を共有しているんだから！」と相手が言ったのを思い出します。 ほんと、まさしく、そんな感じ。 更に、お互いの顔を見ながらお喋りできる。 昭和の子供だった私が、ほっぺを赤くして雪の中を走り回っていた頃に思い描いていた未来図の中の一つが現実になった気分です。 これなら、国内でも国外でも、なかなか会えない友達と簡単に会って話ができますよ。 Skype お勧めです！ もう既に始めている仲良しさんも、これから始めようと思っている仲良しさんも、Skype名を教えて下さいね。 なんか、しばらくハマりそうですわ（苦笑）。

An attorney in Michigan, USA, sent me a fax claiming the unauthorised usage of the name and likeness of a legendary musician on February 15 because my name appears as the international coordinator in certain music magazines. It's been almost 3 weeks and things seem to get better at last. Being the international coordinator for magazines, that kind of claim is not a surprise at all but in this case, it's a bit odd because the magazine in question is an issue of a monthly magazine published over a year ago. The first thing we thought was, "Why now?" Then, they added a book published over a decade ago, in which the same legendary musician is featured, to their list of publication in question. Again, we all said, "Why now?" The book they claim was actually offered and licensed by an American publisher and published by my company as the Japanese version of an American book. All the copyright clearance was done at the beginning. So that one is not a b...

今日、この言い訳に２つの真逆なオチがあることを初めて知りました。 つまり…… 1）他の人がやっているから……自分もやる 2）他の人がやっているから……自分はやらない （1）は子供がオモチャなどを欲しがる時によく使う言い訳ですよね？ 「○○ちゃんも、□□ちゃんも、他の人みんなが持っているから欲しいの〜！」という感じに（笑）。 もしくはゴミのポイ捨てを見つかった時のありがちな言い訳。 自分がやりたいこと、してしまったことの責任を取りたくないがために他人を引き合いに出し、「だって、みんなやってるじゃん、私だけじゃないよ」的な態度で責任転嫁する典型的な言い訳でしょう。 これは私も知っていました。 がー、本日、若手編集者Sの口から出た言葉は同じ言い方なのにオチが真逆の（2）だったのです。 これがもしポジティブな事柄で「自分は自分、人は人」という潔い態度であれば、「あっぱれ！」と思うのですが、Sの口からそんな男前な言葉が出るはずもなく……（苦笑）。 ご想像通り、ポジティブな事柄を打ち消すネガティブな「自分は自分、人は人」という、なんとも残念な態度だったわけです。 3週間ほど前に突然悲劇的な死を遂げてしまった仕事上の関係者がいるのですが、その人と2ヶ月半前に数日間仕事をしたSに「遺族のための寄付ってしないの？」と聞いた時のことです。 （因みにこの人はアメリカ在住で、友人達が遺族のための寄付金を募っている） Sは「それは他の人がやっているので、僕は僕のやり方でやる」と答え、「じゃ、何をするの？」と私が聞いたら、「次号でその人の追悼特集を組む」ですって。 「それはそれとして、寄付もすれば？」と言った私に、Sは「そんなお金ないから」と応えました。 裕福な暮らしをしていた人であれば、友人達が寄付を募るなんてことはあり得ないわけで、寄付を募る必要があるからしているわけです。 また私が働いている会社にはS以外にも仕事上でその人にお世話になった人が実際にいるので、全く面識のない私ですら当たり前のように寄付をするものだと思ったわけです。 今助けを必要としているのは亡くなってしまった当人ではなくて残された遺族だということは、誰が考えても明らかでしょう。 残念なことに、そんな話は一切出ていないようです。 以前、お世話になっていたアメ...

One of my good friends Phil Chen forwarded the link to the article in Time Out Tokyo about a new Jamaican restaurant in Harajuku,  JamRock Cafe , yesterday. The photos in the article look delicious and that was a damn good reason for me to try their dishes today. I had a face-to-face interview with Bob Mintzer at 10am in Toranomon, so I had to get up much earlier than usual - I'm not an early riser at all. The funny thing is the energy level of all of us including the interviewer Yuka, the photographer Gombi, Bob and me were equally low. Bob and Gombi had jet lag and Yuka and I were simply sleepy. But this mellow atmosphere was nice that it all went well. After Bob's interview, Yuka and I went to JamRock for lunch. Yuka ordered "Ital stew" and I "jerk chicken." Both are pretty good. Yuka loves coca-cola but she was too stuffed with the stew to drink it up. Me? I ate mine like a beast ;)  The restaurant is small enough to make you feel cozy, ...

Right after a surreal dream where I got killed by a gladiator-ish worrier on my couch in my living room for the first time in my life, my truly best friend told me this wonderful news of her being pregnant with her second baby! Yay!! I'm totally excited about it!!! The baby is coming in August which is the same month as her first child's birth month. Isn't it neat? :) My fellow colleagues got married in January, my best friend's expecting a baby... and I'm taking the first vacation in 2 years in April. It's going to be a detox journey for my soul and spirit for sure. Suddenly things in my life seem to start moving on and that makes me feel happier now. What Freud said is right - in a dream of your being killed, the victim is 'old you' and the killer is 'new you.'
